One day in Bucharest can centre on Calea Victoriei, with time for the National History Museum of Romania and another cultural stop if opening hours fit. This itinerary sets out a practical museum route and options for adjusting your day around closures.

  • Start: Calea Victoriei, where the National History Museum of Romania and the National Museum of Art of Romania are located.
  • Museum days: Both museums are closed Monday and Tuesday.
  • Transport: Universitate and Piața Unirii are metro stops near the National History Museum.

Build the day around museum opening days first, then choose which stops fit. The National History Museum of Romania and the National Museum of Art of Romania are both closed on Monday and Tuesday, so those days call for a different plan.

Bucharest city centre is about 24 minutes by car from Hotel Baneasa Parc. For public-transport details from the Băneasa area, use this guide to getting around Bucharest by metro, bus and connections.

Calea Victoriei is a useful anchor for a central day: the National History Museum of Romania is at 12 Calea Victoriei, and the National Museum of Art of Romania is at 49–53 Calea Victoriei.

Start with the National History Museum if its schedule suits your visit, then consider the National Museum of Art as another stop on the same avenue. The former Palace of the Posts, which houses the history museum, was built between 1894 and 1899. The museum was founded in 1972.

The museum’s permanent displays include the Historical Treasure, a replica of Trajan’s Column and the Lapidarium. Its winter visiting pattern is Wednesday to Sunday, 09:00–17:00, with Monday and Tuesday closures.
